● Provide updates to Client and Hill staff on status of AK fishery disaster assistance ● Provide Hill staff with an analysis of bycatch and observer coverage in the NP region ● Provide feedback and opposition to draft Executive Orders to: (1) dismantle NOAA and shift management responsibilities to USFWS; and (2) to prohibit commercial trawling ● Report to Client on nomination process for Secretary of Commerce and NOAA Assistant Administrator ● Participate in Hill staff discussions on MSA/ESA/MMPA reforms; provide reform recommendations; monitor House hearing ● Provide strategic advice on developing tariff situation related to US seafood products ● Provide information to Client on NOAAs withdrawal of the vessel speed rule for protection of North Atlantic Right Whales; and on AK Bearded Seal ESA actions ● Monitor congressional hearings/markups/CR/NDAA/USCG reauthorization legislation for ocean-related issues and report to Client; provide USTR report on forced labor in the seafood industry ● Ongoing monitoring and reporting on numerous marine/oceans issues including: status of marine sanctuaries in the region, Hill staff changes, NOAAs 2023 IRA spend plan, MMPA issues; fishery disaster reform; VIDA status; OSW energy development & impacts on whales; WA-AK chinook salmon status and SRKW population issues; MSA reauthorization, Hill staff changes, NOAAs 2023 IRA spend plan, National Seafood Strategy, ESA Alaska King Salmon petition, Russia seafood import ban and NOAAs NSG proposed rule
Tracking and alerting client of funding opportunities available through the Dept. of Transportation Akutan Harbor funding issues, including Water Resources Development Act project authorization and funding. Advocacy for Essential Air Service program funding
