Maritime Safety Act of 2018
This bill addresses the following to enhance maritime safety: (1) domestic vessel compliance with applicable vessels and seamen requirements, (2) safety management systems, (3) equipment requirements, (4) voyage data recorder requirements, (5) survival and locating equipment, (6) training of Coast Guard personnel, (7) flag-state guidance and supplements for documented freight vessels, (8) marine safety strategy and marine safety implementation status, (9) oversight of recognized organizations that act of behalf of the Coast Guard, and (10) timely weather forecasts.
The major marine casualty property damage threshold is increased to $2 million.
