JWI staff is urging members of Congress to support a bill to prohibit respondents to final dating violence protective orders and stalking misdemeanants from possessing, receiving, shipping, or transporting firearms. JWI is urging members of Congress to vote in opposition to H.R.38, federally mandated concealed carry reciprocity. JWI is working with lawmakers to introduce a bill to notify victims when a domestic abuser fails a firearms background check. JWI also submitted a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee opposing removing silencers from the National Firearms Act in reconciliation.

Law Enforcement/Crime/Criminal Justice

JWI is asking members of Congress support of the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act to increase deposits into the Crime Victims Fund. The CVF funds formula grants to states to serve crime victims. JWI is opposing attempts to merge OVW with other DOJ grantmaking components and submitted written testimony to Senate CJS on this topic.

Religion

JWI is educating staff about the needs of faith communities related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in preparation to introduce a bill to fund a national resource center on these crimes in faith communities.
