Intelligence Community Inspector General Parity Act of 2026
Have a question about what this bill does? Ask in plain English; the answer is drawn from the bill's actual text and official record, and it'll tell you when something isn't in the text rather than guess.
Give intelligence community inspector general law enforcement powers.
This bill would amend the National Security Act of 1947 to grant law enforcement authority to the Office of the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community. The inspector general's office currently conducts investigations and audits within the intelligence agencies but does not have the power to enforce laws. This change would allow that office to take on law enforcement duties. The bill is currently in the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform for review.
Referred to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and in addition to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
