Medicare Universal Product Number Act of 1997 - Sets a deadline for all electronic claims forms used for reimbursement under the Medicare program under title XVIII of the Social Security Act (SSA) to accommodate the use of universal product numbers (UPNs) for certain covered items.
Amends SSA title XVIII to require any claim for reimbursement for any covered item under Medicare to contain the UPNs of the covered item in order for the claim to be paid.
Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to study and report annually to the Congress on the implementation of this Act.
