 Lobbying activity 8
Immigration

Advocated for immigration policies that strengthen and protect immigrant communities throughout the budget resolution and reconciliation process. Our efforts focused on securing access to health coverage for individuals who are legally present in the United States, enabling them to fully contribute to small business development and economic growth. We opposed wasteful spending on aggressive enforcement-only measures that separate families and undermine community stability, instead promoting approaches that recognize the vital contributions of immigrant families to American society.

Taxation/Internal Revenue Code

Advocated for critical tax policy reforms to support working families, particularly advocating for the inclusion of the Child Tax Credit for American children in mixed-status families. We also advocated for a strengthened Earned Income Tax Credit that provides meaningful benefits to low-income workers and promoted a more equitable tax system that delivers greater benefits to low-income Americans.

Budget/Appropriations

Pushed for robust federal funding for critical programs that serve the Hispanic community in appropriations legislation. Our efforts focused on essential programs including the Housing Counseling Program, the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition program; the Citizenship Integration Grant Program; the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund; and Title III English Learners Language Program.

Banking

Defended consumer financial protections by advocating for the preservation and strengthening of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), including securing adequate funding throughout the budget resolution and reconciliation process. We opposed legislation aimed at overturning the CFPB's overdraft fee rule, which protects consumers from excessive banking fees. Additionally, we supported legislation to establish a federal financial coaching program that would provide financial coaching services to underserved communities.

Housing

Promoted comprehensive housing security strategies that address the multifaceted challenges facing Latino families in accessing affordable housing. Our advocacy focused on expanding housing supply through zoning reform and development incentives, providing enhanced assistance to first-time homebuyers through down payment assistance, and reducing regulatory and financial barriers to home creation.

Agriculture

Defended nutrition assistance programs, particularly the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), opposing cuts throughout the budget resolution and reconciliation process. We opposed additional administrative barriers that would limit access to benefits, benefit freezes that fail to account for inflation, and proposals to shift program costs to states.

Medicare/Medicaid

Advocated for strong Medicaid and Affordable Care Act (ACA) programs while opposing administrative barriers and funding cuts throughout the budget resolution and reconciliation process. We advocated for the enhanced advance premium tax credit that makes health insurance more affordable for working families. Our efforts also included promoting legislation to create comprehensive paid sick and family leave programs and eliminating barriers to accessing health programs.

Education

Advanced educational equity and affordability for college access and K-12 educational programs. Our efforts included promoting college affordability through expanded access to Pell Grants and student loan forgiveness programs throughout the budget resolution and reconciliation process. We opposed legislation to create a national school voucher program that would divert critical funding from public schools. Additionally, we advocated for enhanced support for English Learners students, ensuring they receive adequate resources and specialized instruction to succeed academically.
