Firearms/Guns/Ammunition

JWI staff is urging members of Congress to support a bill to prohibit respondents to final dating violence protective orders and stalking misdemeanants from possessing, receiving, shipping, or transporting firearms. JWI is urging members of Congress to vote in opposition to H.R.38, federally mandated concealed carry reciprocity. JWI is working with lawmakers to introduce a bill to notify victims when a domestic abuser fails a firearms background check. I am unsure if this qualifies as lobbying, but we also submitted a comment on the NPRM re: relief from firearms disabilities and encouraged constituents and allies to submit comments.

Law Enforcement/Crime/Criminal Justice

JWI is asking members of Congress support of the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act to increase deposits into the Crime Victims Fund. The CVF funds formula grants to states to serve crime victims.

Religion

JWI is educating staff about the needs of faith communities related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in preparation to introduce a bill to fund a national resource center on these crimes in faith communities.
