Promoting Effective Forest Management Act of 2023

This bill establishes additional requirements for the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to address forest health on public lands.

For example, the agencies must

  • establish annual mechanical thinning targets for the National Forest System and public lands,
  • carry out regeneration harvests only in mature forests,
  • develop a strategy to increase the use of livestock grazing to mitigate wildfires,
  • support logging training through apprenticeships, and
  • utilize specified streamlined authorities for environmental review with respect to remedial action in certain vulnerable areas.
