Substance Wastewater Inspection For Trends in Detection Act of 2023 or the SWIFT Detection Act of 2023

This bill expands certain federal programs to specifically include wastewater surveillance to monitor the use of controlled substances.

Specifically, the bill incorporates wastewater surveillance into (1) grants for states, tribes, and territories to prevent overdoses of controlled substances, and (2) a pilot program to support coordination between public health and law enforcement laboratories to improve the detection of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.
