Responsible and Effective Standards for Truckers Act or the REST Act

This bill directs the Department of Transportation to issue or revise regulations for commercial truck drivers subject to maximum driving time requirements for property-carrying vehicles.The regulations must allow such drivers to suspend an on-duty period (the 14-hour period during which a driver is permitted to drive after coming on duty following 10 consecutive hours off duty) for up to 3 hours if such suspension does not extend the total drive time limits in current regulations. No other requirements relating to rest breaks during an on-duty period shall apply to such drivers.
