Growing Safe Food Act of 2009 - Amends the Agricultural Research, Extension, and Education Reform Act of 1998 to direct the Secretary of Agriculture to make grants for food safety training, education, extension, outreach, and technical assistance, with respect to foods under the authority of the Commissioner of Food and Drugs (FDA), to: (1) farm owners and operators; (2) small food processors; and (3) small fruit and vegetable merchant wholesalers.
Authorizes the Secretary to make grants to farms that have, or are transitioning to, certified organic production.
Read twice and referred to the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
