Border Violence Prevention Act of 2009 - Directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to: (1) expand border security operations along the border between the United States and Mexico, including the southbound inspection and investigation of vehicles, to reduce the potential for border violence, enhance border security, and prevent the illicit flow of arms and bulk cash; and (2) coordinate with other relevant federal, state, local, and tribal agencies to carry out such operations in a comprehensive manner.
Includes among actions required by the Secretary, acting through the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP): (1) increasing southbound border security infrastructure and inspection capabilities at ports of entry (2) deploying at least two x-ray mobile inspection units and 10 dual detection canine teams; (3) equipping outbound lanes with license plate readers; and (4) equipping CBP personnel with body armor.
Includes among actions required by the Secretary, acting through the Assistant Secretary of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE): (1) hiring and deploying at least 100 additional ICE personnel to be assigned to Border Enforcement Security Taskforce units involved in efforts to reduce southwest border violence; (2) improving existing Taskforce facilities and acquiring new space for Taskforce units; and (3) increasing resources and personnel for Operation Armas Cruzadas.
